(1) If we compare this Verfe with what is recorded in the beginning of the next Chapter, it will appear that our Lord had given his Difcr ples a Commiffion to Baptize. What therefore they did in this Matter, being done by his Authority and Appointment, it is agreeable to the ufual Forms of speaking, to say that it was done by him.

(1) The Words no and none, in the Scriptures, are frequently tob derstood by way of Comparison, and not in the most general Se Inftance: There is none Righteous, no not one. There is none that fandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Now to understand t Places in the moft general Senfe, would be to contradi&t the D of the holy Spirit; becaufe the Scriptures themselves record fe righteous Perfons, as Noah, Daniel, Job, David, &c. in the Old-Tel and Zachariah and Elizabeth in the New.
