the produce of a fruitful field, i.e., as being Aquila, Symm., áñadà dáxava οσπριώδη. LXX, χίδρα ἐρικτά. Theod., πίονα ἄλφιτα. Lev. xxiii. 14; 2 Kings iv. 42, 2, seems to signify, and first fruits generally, without specifying further. LXX, καὶ παλάθας.

I take to be the radical word, and seek its primitive meaning in the Arabic, where it frequently occurs, and in various significations, but which are all, I think, re- non per xidpa reddi, quod spicas vertere ducible to one general idea, generous. It is solent, sed per pikтa, comminuta; deinde particularly used to denote a generous fertile ipsa xídpa in Judaici interpretamenti gratiam soil. But ejus vocabuli loco xídpa véa habent. Sed how came the lamed to be added? As an 2 Reg. iv. 42. 2 in Alex. versione аaugmentative, I conceive, standing in lieu λáðai, massæ ficuum redditur. Theodotion Hence Carmel, as a proper name, nostro loco ríova äλpira ponit, qua postewill signify the vineyard of God, or any riore voce apud Græcos designatur puls ex other spot of generous earth deserving of hordei torrefacti, et pilo vel mola tusi farina such an epithet. The above, I think, is the facta, vid. Heynium, 1. c. Gesen.- according to the versions: pounded, ground grains (or ears of corn). The etymology and connexion with the preceding is not clear. The Hebrew lexicographers render it by green ears, which is however inapplicable.

the high-priest, who only was anointed after
the first time. See Exod. xxix. 7; xxx. 30;

anointing is mentioned, because he was not
complete high priest till he was anointed.
According to the sin of the people; in the
same manner as any of the people do,
which implies that God expected more
circumspection and care from him than
from the people. But the words may be
rendered, to the sin or guilt of the people,
which may be mentioned as a reason of the
law, and an aggravation of his sin, that by
it he commonly brings sin, and guilt, and sin-offering shall be taken off. See notes on
punishment upon the people, who are in-
fected or scandalized by his example.

For so the words run in the Hebrew,
if he sin to the guilt of the people (or to the

like.
