The greater part of the following pages, had already passed through the press, when it was the will of Providence, to remove to his rest in Christ, him, at whose desire alone, this publication was commenced.
By this event, the Author was deprived of his chief inducement, to proceed in an undertaking, in which, likewise, his increased delicacy of health, rendered it imprudent to persevere. This must account for the omission —though nearly ready for the press of some of the Appendix referred to in the Preface, and of some other articles, which might perhaps have rendered this work more commensurate, than it is at present, with its original design. While, therefore, in venturing before the publick, the Author is only fulfilling the wishes of one, whom he was bound to obey, he trusts, that the foregoing will be admitted as some excuse, for these, and for the various other imperfections, of the present publication.
