HYMN 361.

L. 359. Altered. A glorious hope of holiness and immortality. C.M.

1

[ocr errors]

JOYFUL sound of gospel grace,
Christ shall in me appear;

I, even I, shall see his face,-
I shall be holy here.

2 The glorious crown of righteousness
To me reach'd out I view:

Conqu'ror through him, I soon shall seize
And wear it as my due.

3 The promised land, from Pisgah's top
I now exult to see:

My hope is full (O glorious hope!)
Of immortality.

4 With me, I know, I feel, thou art;
But this cannot suffice,

Unless thou plantest in my heart
A constant paradise.

5 Come, O my God, thyself reveal,
Fill every part that's void;
Thou only canst my spirit fill
When sin is all destroy'd..
HYMN 362.

Rejoicing in prospect of the blessing. 4-6's, & 2-8's.

1 YE ransom'd souls draw near

The throne of Christ, your Lord,
And wait till he appear,

According to his word:

Rejoice in hope, rejoice with me;
We shall from all our sins be free.

2 In God we put our trust;

If we our sins confess,

Faithful is he and just,
From all unrighteousness

To cleanse us all, that gladly we May soon from all our sins be free. 3 Surely in us the hope

Of glory shall appear;
We may our heads lift up,

And see redemption near:
Let every soul rejoice with me;
We shall from all our sins be free.
4 Who Jesus' suff'rings share,
While pilgrims here below,
Ye soon the crown shall wear
On your triumphant brow:
Rejoice in hope, rejoice with me;
We shall from all our sins be free.
5 The word of God is sure,

And never can remove;
We shall in heart be pure,
And perfected in love:

Rejoice in hope, rejoice with me;
We shall from all our sins be free.

6 Then let us gladly bring

Our sacrifice of praiseLet us give thanks and sing,

And glory in his grace:

Rejoice in hope, rejoice with me;

We shall from all our sins be free.

HYMN 363.

Rejoicing in hope of purifying grace. 4 lines 7's.

1

JESUS comes with all his grace,

Comes to save a fallen race;

Object of our glorious hope!
Jesus comes to lift us up.

2 Let the living stones cry out;
Let the sons of Abrah'm shout

t;

Praise we all our lowly King;
Give him thanks, rejoice, and sing.
3 We are now his lawful right;
Walk as children of the light;
We shall soon obtain the grace,-
Pure in heart-to see his face.
4 We shall gain our calling's prize;
After God we shall arise,

Fill'd with joy, and love, and peace,
Perfected in holiness.

5 Let us then rejoice in hope,
Steadily to Christ look up,
Trust to be redeem'd from sin,
Wait till he appear within.
6 Hasten, Lord, the perfect day;
Let thy every servant say,-
I have now obtain'd the power,
Born of God, to sin no more.

HYMN 364.

Believing and prevailing prayer seizing the blessing. C. M.

1 COME, O my God, the promise seal,

And fill me with thy love; Now in my waiting soul reveal Thy kingdom from above.

2 I want thy life, thy purity,

Thy righteousness, brought in:
I ask, desire, and trust in thee
To be redeem'd from sin.

3 For this, as taught by thee, I pray,
My inbred sin cast out:

Thou wilt in me thy power display;
I can no longer doubt.

4 Let anger, sloth, desire, and pride,
This moment be subdued-

Be purged in the atoning tide
Of my Redeemer's blood.

5 Saviour, to thee my soul looks up,
My present Saviour thou!
In all the confidence of hope,

I claim the blessing now.

6 'Tis done; thou dost this moment save,-
With full salvation bless;
Redemption through thy blood I have,--
A spotless love and peace.

MAN-HIS DIVINE AND HEAVENLY COMMUNION,
OR JOYFUL EXPERIENCE AND ANTICIPATIONS.

1

HYMN 365.

Communion with Christ, S. M.

COULD I, on wings of light,

The heavenly mount ascend,

I there should hail, with pure delight,
My Saviour, Brother, Friend.
2 This Friend pervades all space,—
The universe controls,

And, lo his arms of love embrace
Believing, humble souls.

3 His promised Spirit lives

Within them, like a fire,

And cheering heat and light he gives,
As they to heaven aspire.

4 In trials he sustains;

Temptations he repels;

On their behalf a guard maintains,
And with them ever dwells.

5 They own his gentle sway,

Are glad to hear his voice,
With pleasure they his laws obey
From love's constraining choice.
6 To him they state their fears;
Consult him as their Friend;

He soothes their grief, dries up
In dangers does defend.

7 May fellowship like this

their tears,

Ön earth my portion be; Receive me then to endless bliss, To dwell, O Lord, with thee. HYMN 366.

L.20. Fellowship with Christ one on earth and in heaven. C.M.

1

HA

[APPY the souls to Jesus join'd,
And saved by grace alone;
Walking in all his ways, they find
Their heaven on earth begun.

2 The church triumphant in thy love,
Their mighty joys we know;

They sing the Lamb in hymns above,
And we in hymns below.

3 Thee, in thy glorious realm they praise,
And bow before thy throne;
We, in the kingdom of thy grace:
The kingdoms are but one.

4 The holy to the holiest leads,
And thence our spirits rise;
For he that in thy statutes treads,
Shall meet thee in the skies.

HYMN 367.

Union with Christ by faith the prelude to union with Him in heaven. 8 lines 7's.

ESUS is our common Lord,—

1 JESUS

He our loving Saviour is;

By his death to life restored,

Misery we exchange for bliss,-
Bliss to carnal minds unknown;
O'tis more than tongue can tell;
Only to believers shown,—
Glorious and unspeakable.
