NUMBERS

INTRODUCTION.

T HIS Book contains the history of the Israelites abele and

travels in the wilderness, for almost thirty nine years 10gether, till all those were dead that came out of Egyhi, except Moses, JOSHUA and CALEB, and till they were ready to pass over Jordan into the land of Canaan. Several memorable pas. sages are related in it ; as, their being numbered not long after they came out of Egypt, and again, a little before they passed over Jordan, from which it is called Numbers, their encampe ment about the tabernacle s the establishment of the tribe of Levi in the priesthood, upon occasion of Korah's rebeläion; their seve eral murmurings and seditions, and their puniskments for them ; how they were stung with fiery serpents, and cured by the bra. zen one ; Balaam's curse turned to a blessing ; their conquest of that part of the land on this side Jordan, and rules for the die vision of the land ; God's speech to Moses concerning his death, and his successor JoȘHỰA ; and cities of refuge appointed. All which are intermixed with the addition and explanation of sun- ' dry laws, civil and military, but chiefly ceremonial.
