To Alms in Secret.-When thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth ; that thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly Matt. vi. 3, 4.

To the Supporting God's Ministers and Worship.— Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap; for he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Gal. vi. 6-8.

Bring ye all the tithes into the store-house, that there may be meat in Mine house; and prove Me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open to you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of Hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of Hosts. Mal. iii. 10-12.

And the Levite (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee), and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow which are within thy gates, shall come and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest. Deut. xiv. 29.

Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase; so shall thy barns be filled with plenty. And thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Prov. iii. 9, 10,

The Merciful.

Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil. iv. 17-19.

To the Merciful.-Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Matt. v. 7. With the merciful Thou wilt show Thyself merciful. Psalm xviii. 25.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the table of thine heart. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding, in the sight of God and man. Pr. iii. 3, 4. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. Pr. xi. 17.

If the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge; in any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down; that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee; and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the Lord thy God. Deut. xxiv. 12, 13.

XI.-To the Giving and Receiving of Reproofs.

To the reproving faithfully.—To them that rebuke him [the wicked], shall be delight; and a good blessing shall come upon them. Prov. xxiv. 25.

He that rebuketh a man, afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue. Prov. xxviii. 23.

To them that regard Reproof.-Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. Prov. xiii. 18.

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack. Prov. xxviii. 8, 27.

Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight, for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. Eccles. xi. I, 2.

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matt. x. 42.

Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand: Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was an hungered, and ye gave Me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took Me in; naked, and ye clothed Me; I was sick, and ye visited Me; I was in prison, and ye came unto Me. Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.

Matt. xxv. 34-36, 40. Go thy way sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor; and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. Mark x. 21.

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured unto you again. Luke vi. 38.

If there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not, 2 Cor. viii. 12.

The Charitable.

Give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you. Luke xi. 41.

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. Luke xii. 33.

And I say unto you: Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

Luke xvi. 9.

When thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. Luke xiv. 13, 14.

He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Cor. ix. 6, 7.

Charge them that are rich in this world—that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate. Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. 1 Tim. vi. 17-19. To do good and to communicate forget not, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Heb. xiii. 16.

God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruit of your righteousness. 2 Cor. ix. 8, 10.
