Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last, Hath won my affections, and bound my soul fast. 2 Without thy sweet mercy I could not live here.. Sin soon would reduce me to utter despair; But thro' thy free goodness, my spirits revive, And he that first made me, still keeps me alive. 3 Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart, Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart; Dissolv'd by thy goodness. 1 fall to the ground, And weep to the praise of the mercy I found. 4 The door of thy mercy stands open all day To th' poor and the needy who knock by the way; No sinner shall ever be empty sent back, Who comes seeking mercy for Jesus's sake. 5 Thy mercy in Jesus exempts me from hell; Its glories'll sing, and its wonders I'll tell : Twas Jesus, my friend, when he hung on the tree, Who open'd the channel of mercy for me. 6 Great Father of mercies, thy goodness I own, And th' covenant love of thy crucify'd son; All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine, Seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine. XXXIV. 5. 5. 11. Toplady. 1 3 Everlasting Love and electing Grace. H Our election who see, And venture, O Lord, for salvation on thee! Upheld by thy power we cannot be mov'd. 'Tis sweet to recline On th' bosom divine, And experience the comforts peculiar to thine : While, born from above, And upheld b' thy love, With singing and triumph to Zion we move. Our seeking thy face, Was all of thy grace, Thy mercy demands and shall have all the praise: No sinner can be Thy grace is preventing, almighty, and free. It knew no beginning, and never shall end : His Spirit ne'er leaves, Nor ever repents of the grace that he gives. Thou art precious alone to the souls that believe. All beside is as dross, Compar'd with thy love and the blood of thy cross. PART THE SECOND. 6 Yet, one thing we want, More holiness grant! .7 8 1 For more of thy mind, and thine image we pant: On thy fav'rite race, O fashion and polish thy vessels of grace. Thy workmanship we More fully would be ; Lord, stretch out thy hand and conform us to thee; While onward we move To Canaan above, Come, fill us with holiness, fill us with love. Vouchsafe us to know More of thee below, Thus fit us for heaven, and glory bestow; The lamb shall be crown'd; Salvation to Jesus through heav'n shall resound. XXXV. 8, 7, 4. Rippon's Selec. The godly consideration of election in Christ S ONS we are, through God's election, By eternal destination, Sovereign grace we here receive : Lord, thy mercy Does both grace and glory give. Merits everlasting pain; Shall in life, through Jesus reign. Hallelujah! Thanks, eternal thanks to thee? 4 Since that love had no beginning, And shall never, never cease; Keep, O keep me, Lord, from sinning! Guide me in the way of peace! Make me walk in All the paths of holiness. 5 When I quit this feeble mansion, Through thy Spirit, Give the final victory! 6 When the angel sounds the trumpet; When my soul and body join; When my Saviour comes to judgment, Bright in majesty divine; Let me triumph In thy righteousness as mine. 1 Shall resound through Canaan's land. XXXVI. 8, 7, 4. F Finished Redemption. HARK! the voice of love and mercy Sounds aloud from Calvary! See! it rends the rocks asunder, Shakes the earth, and veils the sky! "It is finish'd!" Saints, the dying words record. 3 Finish'd, all the types and shadows Of the ceremonial law ! Finish'd, all that God had promis'd; Saints, from hence your comfort draw. 4 [Happy souls, approach the table, Taste the soul-reviving food; Nothing half so sweet and pleasant Christ has borne the heavy load.] Glory to the bleeding Lamb! XXXVII. 8, 8, 6. Chatham tune. Toplady. Christ's Atonement. THOU, who didst thy glory leave, If thou hast bought me with a price, 2 And wast thou punish'd in my stead? On earth my God vouchsaf'd to dwell, The sufferings of the Man. 3 Behold him for transgressors given! Amaz'd, O earth! the tidings hear! 4 Ye saints, the man of sorrows bless, 1 Praise till, with all the ransom'd throng, XXXVIII. 8, 7. L. H. C. Gratitude for the Atonement.
