עמוד 79 - Thus, when Heaven is about to confer a great office on any man, it first exercises his mind with suffering and his sinews and bones with toil. It exposes his body to hunger and subjects him to extreme poverty. It confounds his undertakngs. By all these methods it stimulates his mind, hardens his nature and supplies his incompetencies.
עמוד 13 - If a man love others, and no responsive attachment is shown to him, let him turn inwards and examine his own benevolence. If he is trying to rule others, and his government is unsuccessful, let him turn inwards and examine his wisdom. If he treats others politely, and they do not return his politeness, let him turn inwards and examine his own feeling of respect.
עמוד 97 - In serving his parents, a son may remonstrate with them, but gently ; when he sees that they do not incline to follow his advice, he shows an increased degree of reverence, but does not abandon his purpose ; and should they punish him, he does not allow himself to murmur.
עמוד 69 - We may not for that accord our approval of him." " And what do you say of him who is hated by all the people of his village ? " The Master said, " We may not for that conclude that he is bad.

I am the one of Heaven's people who has first apprehended; - I will take these principles and instruct the people in them.
עמוד 77 - Is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The Master said, "Is not RECIPROCITY such a word? What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.
עמוד 15 - If, on self-examination, I find that I am not upright, shall I not be in fear even of a poor man in his loose garments of hair-cloth? If, on selfexamination, I find that I am upright, I will go forward against thousands and tens of thousands.
