20. And every thing that he lieth upon in her fepa ration, fhall be unclean: every thing alfo that fhe fitteth upon, fhall be unclean.

21. And whofoever toucheth her bed, shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean untill the even.

22. And whosoever toucheth any thing that fhe fat upon, fhall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean untill the even.

23. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon fhe fitteth, when he toucheth it; he shall be unclean untill the even.

24. And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon bim, he fhall be unclean feven days: and all the bed whereon be lieth, Shall be unclean.

24. Lie with ber at all: That is, though he do it ig ing her to be in that norantly, not know

condition: For if he

did it knowingly he was liable to be cut off, ch. 20. 18.

25. And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her feparation, or if it run beyond the time of her feparation; all the days of the iffue of her uncleanness fhall be as the days of her feparation: The fhall be unclean.

26. Every bed whereon the lieth all the days of her iffine, fhall be unto her as the bed of her feparation; and whatsoever the fitteth upon, fhall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her feparation.

27. And whofoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean untill the even.

28. But

28. But if he be cleanfed of 28, Cleanfed: i. e. ber iffue; then she shall number to Healed. See v. 13. her felf feven days, and after that fhe Shall be clean.

29. And on the eighth day fhe fhall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons; and bring them unto the prieft, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

30. And the priest fhall offer the one for a fin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering; and the priest fhall make an atonement for ber before the LORD, for the iffue of her uncleannefs.

31. Thus foall ye feparate the children of Ifrael from their uncleannefs; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.

32. This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whofe feed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith:

CHAP. XVI.

The ARGUMENT.

Of the High-priest's going into the Holy of Holies. He must put on the Holy Garments, and bring his Sinoffering for himself. Of the two Goats for the People; one whereof was a Sin-offering for them; of the other called the Scape-goat. Aaron's Burnt-offering, and that of the People. The tenth Day of the feventh Month, the Dey of Expiation, appointed to be both a Fast, and Sabbath, or Day of Rest.

death of the two fons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;

2. And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil, before the mercy-feat, which is upon the ark; that be die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy-feat.

od. 30. 10. Heb. 9.7. This is to be understood with reference to the Priestly Service or Miniftration, See Heb.9.6,7. Upon other neceffary occafions the Highpriest might enter in

to the most Holy place; viz. When the Tabernacle was taken down or set up according to the Removals of the Iraelites, &c. Into the holy place: i. e. The Holy of Holies, as appears by what follows. This was a Figure of Heaven, Heb. 9. 12, 24. And the High-priest's going into it, of our Saviour Chrift's entring into Heaven, Heb. 9. 11, 12. the cloud: i. e. In the Cloud or Smoak of the Incense, mentioned v. 13. and which was to be offered but once in the year.

3. Thus fhall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a fin-offering, and a ram for burnt-offering.

4. He fhall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with the linen girdle, and with the linen mitre fhall be be attired: these are holy garments; therefore fhall he wash his flesh in water, and fo put them on.

4. The holy linen Coat, &c. The Service peculiar to this day was to be performed by the Highpriest in his linen Veftments, not in his more coftly Attire of Gold. This meaner Garb being

which the Service of the day required. Upon his flesh: Flesh is to be understood in the fenfe in which it is taken, ch. 15.2.

5. And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Ifrael, two kids of the goats for a fin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering.

6. And Aaron fhall offer his bullock of the fin-offering, which is for bimfelf, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.

6. Make an atonement: Heb.9.7. His houfe: i. e. The reft of the Priefts, v.33. who are called the Pfal. 135. 19.

7. And he shall take the two goats, and prefent them before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

8 And Aaron fhall caft lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the Scape-goat.

8. One lot for the LORD: i. e. One Lot was fo marked, that it did exprefs that it belonged to fell was to be Sacrifi

the Lord, and the Goat on which it ced. The Sufferings of Chrift are hereby prefigured, which, how cafual foever they might feem to us to be, did not happen without the particular Providence and Counsel of God, Prov. 16.33. Act. 4. 28. Scapegoat: Heb. Azazeel; i. e. The Goat which was to be fent away alive, into a place not inhabited.

9. And Aaron fhall bring the goat upon which the LORD's lot fell, and offer him for a fin-offer

Jom Hak-kippur, c. 3.] With reference to the Box, the Lot may be laid to come up; and with refpect to the Goat, on whom it was put, to fall, Josh.18. 11. ch. 19. 1. Numb. 33. 54.

10. But the goat on which the lot fell to be the fcape-goat, fhall be prefented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a Scape-goat into the wilderness.

10. To make an d tonement: This Goat was a Sin-offering as well as the other, and is fo called, (v.5.) And though he were not flain as the o ther, yet was he char

ged with the Iniquity of the Ifraelites, and might therefore be faid to bear their Iniquities, and to make Atonement for them. 、

11. And Aaron fhall bring the bullock of the fin-offering, which is for himself, and fhall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and fhall kill the bullock of the fin-offering which is for bimfelf.

12. The Altar

Burnt-offerings, or the brazen Altar.

12. And he shall take a cenferfull of burning coals of fire from i. e. The Altar of off the altar before the LORD, and his hands-full of fweet incenfe beaten fmall, and bring it within the veil.

13. And he shall put the incenfe upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incenfe may cover the mercy-feat that is upon the teftimony, that he die not.

13. Put the incenfe: This was done after the Bullock was killed, and bementioned (2.3, 11.) fore the blood was

fprinkled. And by this means the way was prepared into the Holy of Holies, (v.2.) Incense was a Figure of Prayer: And the Incense which the High-prieft here offers up, was a Figure of the fervent Prayers which our Saviour made a little before his going into Heaven, or that entring into the Holy place which is mentioned, Heb. 9. 12. That he die not: See . 2. and Exod. 33. 20.

14. And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy feat east-ward: and before the mer feat hall he fprinkle of the blood with his finger feven times.
