"His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” THESE words, which I have chosen for the subject of our meditations, on this melancholy occasion, are taken from the Parable of the Talents, and appear to me peculiarly applicable to the character of your deceased Vicar. In the following discourse, it shall be my endea vour, 1st. To give a short explanation of the parable. 2dly. To give such a description of the Ministerial Character of our departed Friend, as will justify us in believing, that he shall receive, from the lips of his Saviour, the joyful salutation contained in the words of the text. And, lastly, conclude with a few words of exhortation to different classes of my hearers. |
