ix. 5. The Cherubims of Glory, Ezek. i. 1. The Names were opened, and I faw Vifions, the Aleim. 4. And I looked, and behold a Whirlwind came out of the North, a great Cloud, and a Fire unfolding itself, and out of the midst thereof, as the Colour of Amber, out of the midst of the Fire. Also out of the midst thereof, the likeness of four living Creatures. And this their appearance, and the Similitude of Adam to them. And every one had four faces. 10. And for the likeness of their faces, they four had the faces of a Man, and the faces of a Lion on the right fide, and they four had the faces of an Ox on the left fide: They four alfo had the faces of an Eagle. 22. And the likeness of the Firmament (Expanfion) upon the heads of the living Creature, as the Eye (or fparkling) of the terrible mp, ftretch'd forth over_their heads above. 26. And above the Firmament (Expansion) that was over their heads, was the likeness of a Throne, as the appearance of a Sapphire-ftone; and upon the likeness of the Throne, was the likeness of the appearance of Adam (a Man) above upon it. And I faw as the Eye (or fparkling) of you, as the appearance of Fire round about within it : from the

ap

appearance of his Loins even upward, and from the appearance of his Loins even downward, I faw as it were the appearance of Fire, and it had Brightness round about. As the appearance of the Bow, that is in the Cloud in the Day of Rain, fo was the appearance of the Brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the Glory Jehovah: And when I faw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that fpake. Ib. viii. 2. Then I beheld, and lo, a likeness as the appearance of Fire; from the appearance of his Loins, even downwards, Fire: And from his Loins, even upward, as the appearance of Brightness (Splendor) as the Colour of Amber; and he put forth the form of a hand, and the Spirit lift me up,-and brought me in the Vision of the Aleim to Jerufalem, to the Door of the Inner Gate that looketh towards the North-And behold the Glory of the Aleim of Ifracl was there, according to the Vifion that I faw in the Plain. Ib. ix. 3. And the Glory of the Aleim of Ifrael was gone up, from the Cherub whereon he was, to the Threshold of the Houfe, and he call'd to the Man, -and Jehovah faid unto him, ib. x. i. Then I looked, and behold, in

the

the Firmament that was above the head of the Cherubims, there appear'd over them as it were a Sapphire-ftone, as the appearance of the likeness of a Throne: and he spake unto the Man. 4. Then the Glory Jehovah went up from the Cherub, &c. 18. Then the Glory Jehovah departed from off the Threshold of the Houfe, and stood over the Cherubim. And the Cherubim-went-and stood at the Door of the Eaft Gate of the Houfe of Jehovah, and the Glory of the Aleim of Ifrael was over them above. This is the living Creature that I fawn fubter, vice, inftead of [a substitute of] the Aleim of Ifrael, by the River of Chebar, and I knew that they were the Cherubims. Every one had four faces, &c. ib. xi. 22, 23. So Ecclef. xlix. 8. It was Ezekiel who faw the glorious Vifion, which was fhew'd him upon the Chariot of the Cherubims. From this appearance of Man upon the Throne, and Dan. vii. 9. and Texts in other parts to this purpose, the ignorant Jews took their Notion of a temporal King and Kingdom. So first of Images, Buxt. When the Ark, &c. were taken, Eli's Daughter names her Son Icabod, because the Glory was departed from Ifrael. But, as the Glory went not with it, when that is fpoken of, the Word 8 is ufed, Pfal. Hence this is called, Jer. xiv. 21. xvii. 12. the Throne of Glory; and he who fat there was called, Pfal. xxiv. 7. the King Glory. The Name which fat there was called, Nehem. ix. 5. Pfal.
