the Glory of his Name: Afcribe the Glory to his Irradiation. Pfal. cxlviii. 4. Render to him the Irradiation of Light, ye Names of the Names. So Ifa. vii. 14. he was called by the Direction of the Holy Ghost the Irradiator with us. As all others were, this was mifapplied by the Heathens to one of the Names, Jer. xlix. 4. 1. 38.

Great Difputes have been about the Name of one who was to fucceed the Race of the Jewish Kings, or Rulers in that State, Gen. xlix. 10. by Shilah, afterwards the Name of the Place where the Ark and Cherubim firft ftood in Canaan. It had been called and he and was the fame, or near Bethel. But the Tabernacle, with the Emblems, was called nb from the Perfon reprefented there, as it was frequently called the Glory or Place of Glory. And often by another of his Names, alfo reprefented there, of which below. The Word is compounded of v who, the fod as a Sign in lieu of ; fo

retaining the Signification in the latter to be made, because to irradiate Light, is the Idea of the fecond Perfon in the Effence. But the Man who pretends to that is mad. As in the Text; As a Madman who cafteth Firebrands, (Flames or Sparks) Arrows and Death--and faith, am not I in Sport. And they have been fuperlatively mad who have attributed that Power to Orbs, Stones, &c. The fame Manner of Termination is used in &c. But as that Idea was too grofs even for one leavened with the Doctrine of the Rabbies; and though the first is evidently to be diftracted, as they had conftrued it to Labour, he has attempted to prove its Relation to the Root to labour, to be fatigued; but that will not do; the & in is always radical, fo it muft ftand till He -He who irradiates, The Light come: So Ezek. xxi. 25. And thou profane wicked Prince of Ifrael, whofe Day is come, when Iniquity shall have an End. Thus faith Adonai Jehovah, remove the Diadem, and take off the Crown: This ball not be the fame, exalt him that is low,

and abafe him that is high. I will overturn, overturn, overturn it, (perverted, perverted, perverted, will I make it) and it shall be no more, until he come whofe Right it is, and I will give it him Hof. xii. 1. And Judah yet reigns with the Irradiator, and with the Holy Ones is faithful.

We can give no Idea of the original Name, Glory or Gravity, but by the Type, in a material and mechanical Senfe. He by the Motions, Actions, or Effects of the Light, in this Senfe the Gravitor, in this Machine the Names, performs every thing in the support of this material Syftem, in moving the Orbs, in circulating Water, in the Production of Vegetables from Seeds, and Animals from Eggs, &c. fo Light is the Glory of the Names, and the Subject, the Object of Man's Admiration. Which Irradiation is expreffed by feveral of its most visible or fenfible Effects upon other paffive Matter in geneneral; upon Solids, by their being formed and kept folid; upon Fluids, by being compreffed, upon both, by giving a Tendency or Gravitation towards the Orb of the Earth, or impreffing Weight upon every Atom of them; and in their being moved (where not obstructed) by the Compreffure

preffure or Impulfe of Light, affifted by the Spirit; and therefore the Word 2 is often and more properly tranflated Gravity, or Graviter, of which together in the latter Part.

Irradiation in general is expreffed by the Word yo', not only for this Irradiation of Light outward, bur alfo for that of the Spirit inward, and for the fupernatural Representations, but in fpiritual Adminiftration. Job iii. 4. Nor let the Light fhine upon it. Ibid. xxxvii. 15. And his Cloud caufe the Light to fhine. Ibid. x. 22. And Irradiation like that of concreted Grains (Spirit). Deut. xxxiii. 2. Jehovah-irradiated from Mount Páran. Pfal. 1. 2. Out of Sion the Perfection of Beauty, hath the Alcim irradiated. ibid. 1xxx. 2. Thou that dwelleft in the Cherubim, irradiate. Job. x. 3. And irradiate upon the Counfel of the Wicked. PL. xciv. 1. 8 Irradiator of Revenges, Jehovah, Irradiator of Revenges fine forth; lift up thyfelf thou Judge of the Earth.

This is also ascribed to the Names the false Aleim, Ezek. xxviii. 7, 17.

In relation to the extraordinary Work of the Redemption of Man, the Glory in a mixed Senfe, fpiritually and corporeally, by voluntary Covenant, was

like the Light, to be fent forth and diffuse itfelf. The fecond Perfon under the typical Names of Irradiator, The Glory, That Perfon in Jehovah was to be united with Man, that he might be able, in this Part, to diffuse himself in Beneficence to Men; that that Perfon might be able to perform perfect Righteoufnefs for all Mankind; to fuffer the Wrath of the Father, fatisfy Juftice, and attone for the Sins of all Mankind. And, in defpight of the Subtilty, Envy and Malice of Satan in feducing Man, fhould defeat, overcome, and fo justly fentence him to everlasting Torment, and redeem Man; and thereby reclaim fuch, as would believe, to love the Aleim, and to be fit to be beloved by them; to conquer Death, to take Poffeffion; and finally put them into the State which was intended for Man.

As the Power of Irradiation, though in the whole fluid Subftance the Emblem is, as one may fay, in Action mechanically divided, one Part to the Fire, one to the Light, and one to the Spirit; so that Power, in the Effence it reprefents, is, as one may fay, by the Covenant occonomically divided to the Father to punish Sinners, to take Vengeance of them in Chrift; to the Light the Son to rule the VOL.
