Names. Ifai. xl. 8. and the Word of our Aleim fhall ftand for ever. Who or which of the Perfons this is, the Type fhews, Pf. cxlvii. 15. His Word runs very fwiftly. He giveth Snow like Wool: He fcattereth the hoar Froft like Ashes:-He fendethhis Word and melteth them: The Spirit blows, and the Waters fhall flow. cxlviii. 8. The Stormy Wind doing his Word. Ifa. xl. 7. The Grafs withereth, the Flower fadeth, because the Spirit of Jehovah bloweth upon it. Correfpondent with this in the New Teftament, John i. 1. In the beginning (in chief, in the rule) was the word, and the word was with God, and God was the word. In the Tranflation 'tis-and the word was God-Great Injustice is done by this Tranfpofition; for the fecond Perfon was Oeds before he was 27 Aoyos. He was eos from all Eternity, without Beginning; he became λoyos, when the Covenant for the Redemption of Man was made between the three Perfons, of which one and the chief part of that Covenant was, that he fhould reveal, manifeft himself, &c. Thence arose all the other Ideas, even those given us from this material System, which commenced when the Syftem was created and form'd. The Father was Jehovah before, by that Co

venant, he became Fire, the Father. The Son was Jehovah before, by that Covenant, he became the Light, the Son, oyos, the Glorifier. The holy Spirit was Jehovah before, by that Covenant, he became the Spirit, the Sanctifier, &c. This Tranfpofition puts it as if he were λóyos before he was Jehovah or eos, which is an Impoffibility, a Contradiction in Terms. He could not have been one of the Aleim, he could not have been able to perform what he covenanted, except he had been Jehovah; he could become one of the Aleim, or hoyos, in time; 'tis impoffible he could become Jehovah or Oeos, in time. Jer. viii. 8. How can ye say, we are the wife Men, and the Law of Jehovah is with us? Lo, certainly the falfe Pen of the Scribes worketh Falfhood. The wife Men are afhamed; they are difmayed and taken; lo, they reject the Word Jehovah; and Wisdom is confounded among them. There is fuch another Tranfpofition, John iv. 24. God is a Spirit, or the Spirit is God, of which below. But to return, John i. 3. All Things were made by him; and without him was not any Thing made that was made. Luke iii. 2. The word of God came unto John. Heb. i. 2. Hath in thefe laft Days Spoken unto us by his Son,

whom he hath appointed Heir of all Things, by whom alfo he made the Worlds Ib. xi. 3. Through Faith we understand that the Worlds were framed by the Word of God, fo that Things which are feen were not made of Things which do appear. 1 Pet. i, 23. Being born again, not of corruptible Seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God which liveth and abideth for ever. ver. 25. But the Word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you, 2 Pet. iii. 5. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the Word of God the Heavens were of old, and the Earth confifting out of the Water, and in the Water. 1 John v. 7. For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and thefe three are one. Revel. xix. 13. And he was cloathed with a Vefture dipped in Blood, and his Name is called the Word of God. Ibid. v. 5. Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David (his Emblem in the Cherubim) bath prevail'd to open the Book, and to loose the feven Seals thereof. ver. 6. In the midft of the Throne-flood a Lamb. Ibid. vi. I. And I faw when the Lamb open'd one of the Seals.

The Tranfpofition in the Tranflation, John iv. 24. is more injurious to the Spirit, than the laft was to the Word. Chrift could not, 'till a proper Time, openly confefs himself to the Jews; because they would at any time have put him to Death for that Confeffion. But meeting the Woman of Samaria, who was in Expectation of the Meffiah, and had a ready Difpofition to be guided by him, and fuch a Degree of Knowledge as to understand that Prophecy was ceased, and was not to be reftored 'till he came; and fuch a Degree of Faith that, upon Chrift's fhewing that he knew Things which were fecret, and lo was a Prophet, firft applied to him as such, and afterwards juftly concluded and believed that he was the Meffiah. She deferved, and he gave her, a more open and a clearer Declaration of the Trinity, and of himself, than ever he gave to any other. She defires him to refolve a Doubt. ver. 20. Our Fathers worshipped in this Mountain; and ye fay, that in Jerufalem is the Place where Men ought to worship. "Tis plain, by the Anfwer, that the Samaritans were fallen into the Apoftacy, with fome of the Jews, of worshipping the Father only, introduced by Jeroboam from Egypt, as fhew'd above, by fetting up only one of the Beafts in the Cherubim, the Bull.

ver. 21. Jefus faith unto her, Woman, believe me the Hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this Mountain, nor yet at Jerufalem worship the Father; fhews her that it was not lawful to worship him alone, or immediately in any Place, and gives them a bitter Reproof, not for their manner of worshipping, but for the Object; not for how, but for what. ver. 22. Te worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for Salvation is of the Jews, Concludes them falfe Worfhippers, and thenceforward fettles the Objects of Worfhip, and the true Worshippers. ver. 23. But the Hour cometh, and now is, when the true Worshippers shall worship the Father in the Spirit, and in the Truth: for the Father feeketh fuck to worship him. Next, not as they have tranfpofed it, God is a Spirit; but properly and expressly the Spirit, the God, with Directions how to worship him; though it was not lawful to approach the Father without him and Chrift, he is to be worshipped by Christ. ver. 24. The Spirit, the God, and they that worship him muft worship (not in their own Spirits, and their own Truths, but) in the Spirit and Truth. ver. 25. The Woman faith unto him, I know that MeJiah cometh which is called Chrift; when he is come, he will tell us all

Things.
