This Mount Sion wherein thou hast dwelt. Ixxvi. 3. In Salem also is his Tabernacle, and his Dwelling-place in Sion. The Ark with the Cherubim, 2 Chron. iii. 10. That of the Cherubim is already cited, under the Word -30%, where there were typical Faces, Ex. xxxiv. 34. in the old Tabernacle, when Moscs went into the Faces of Jchovah to speak with him. To prove this, Ex. xl. 34, 35. And the Cloud abode thereon, and the Glory Jehovah filled the Tabernacle, & al. Þr. xxvi. 8. And the Place of the Tabernacle of thy Glory. Ifa. lx. 7. I will glorify the House of my Glory. 1 King. viii. 12. 2 Chron. vi. 1. Jehovah hath said he would dwell in a dark Cloud. Exod. xv. 2. Behold O'X the Man whose Name is the Branch, and he mall grow up (branch up from under him) out of bis Place, and he mall build the Temple of Jehovah; even he mall build the Temple of Jehovah, and he mall bear the Giory, and mall fit and rule upon his Throne, and the Counsel of Peace Mall be between them both.
The Presence of the Three dwelt in the ficut Rubbim, as well as the Presence of the second Person dwelt in the Cloud, in the Emblem Glory, on the Throne, between the two Cherubim, in the Urim and Thummim, from whence he gave Orders or Responses; but he could not have been diftinguished from the other two, if he had spoken out of the Cherubim, nor could his Offices of Intercessor and King have been distinguished from his being one of the Rubbim, or Aleim.
Nay the Heathens, so apostate Jews ascribed this sort of Presence of their Aleim to the Representatives of them, as -appears not only by the Books of the modern Heathens, but by Scripture. Ifa. xliv. 13. And maketh it after the Figure of w's a Perfon; after the Beauty of a Man to inhabit the Temple. Ezek. viii. 3. Where was the Seat of the Image of Jealousy. xxiii. 41. And thou did;t set it up. on a Bed of Glory, and a Table prepared to its Faces, whereupon thou hast set my Incense and my Oil.' So they thought of the golden Calf. Ex.xxiii. 5. The first coming of Christ to take upon him Flesh could not be emblematically exhibited by the High-Priest ; that was repreVol. VI. M
sented in the Figures of the Rubbim, as a thing covenanted to be done, and so predictive, or a Pledge of the Completion, as his Rcsurrection and Ascension into Hea- . ven is typified by the High-Priest's entering within the Vail, into the Type of the Heavens, the Place of their Visages immediate Presence. So the Priest at his Return out of the Sanctum Sanctorum, when he had offered sweet Incense, sprinkled the Blood, typified the second coming of Christ, when he shall, as the Priest blessed those who were without waiting, till he had performed his Office in the Name of Jeh those who shall be without, expe&ing the Acceptance of his Sacrifice, and Intercession for them, and waiting for his coming; and put them in Poffesion of the Kingdom he has obtained for them. And if the few's will consider the Form which, they say, the Priest used when he returned out of the Holy of Holies to the People. Numb. vi. 23.
