The object of this little Work, is to illustrate the Catechism by parallel passages, taken from the Book of Common Prayer, a plan upon which (as is believed) it has not hitherto been published. Much good must surely result from familiarizing the young with the language, the consistent doctrinal teaching, and the Rubrical directions of a Book next in importance to the Bible; and of which, it has been well observed, that, “ taking the whole of it as our guide for the right understanding of Scripture, we take for our guide the consentient voice of the Universal Primitive Church 1."

INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS, &c.
Q. What do you mean by a Catechism ?
A. - An instruction to be learned of every person before he be brought to be confirmed by the bishop.” -Title of Catechism, Prayer-book.
Q. Does the Prayer-book appoint any time for public catechising ?
A. “ The curate of every parish shall diligently, upon Sundays and holydays, after the second lesson at evening prayer, openly in the church, instruct and examine so many children of his parish sent unto him as he shall think convenient, in some part of this Catechism.”-First Rubric after Catechism.
Q. Ought any other persons to come and be catechised?
A. “And all fathers, mothers, masters, and dames, shall cause their children, servants, and apprentices (which have not learned their Catechism), to come to the church at the time appointed, and obediently to hear, and be ordered by the curate, until such time as they have learned all that is here appointed for them to learn.”—Second Rubric after Catechism.
