que estan escritas de mí, en la Ley de Moysés, en los Profetas, y en los Salmos.

45 Entonces les abrió el entendimiento paraque entendiesen las Escrituras.

46 Y les dijo: asi está escrito, y así fué necesario que el Christo padeciese, y resucitase de entre los muertos al tercero dia.

47 Y que se predicase en su nombre arrepentimiento, y remision de pecados á todas las naciones, comenzando en Jerusalem.

48 Y vosotros sois testigos de estas cosas.

49 Y he aquí yo enviaré el prometido de mi Padre sobre vosotros. Mas vosotros, permaneced en la ciudad de Jerusalem, hásta que seais revestidos de la virtud de lo alto.

50 Y los sacó fuera hásta Bethanía, y alzando sus manos los bendijó.

51 Y aconteció que mientras los bendecía se fué de ellos, y erá llevado arriba al cielo.

52 Y ellos despues de haberle adorado, volvieronse á Jerusalem con grande gozo.

53 Y estaban siempre en el templo alabando y bendiciendo á Dios. Amen.

45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusa lem, until ye be endued with power from on high

50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

4 En él estaba la vida, y la vida erá la luz de los hombres.

5 Y la luz en las tinieblas resplandece, mas las tinieblas no la comprendieron.

6 Fué un hombre enviado de Dios, el cual se llamaba Juan. 7 Éste vinó por testimonio, para dar testimonio de la luz, paraque por él creyesen todos.

8 El no erá la luz, sino fué enviado paraque diese testimonio de la luz.

9 Erá la luz verdadera, que alumbra á todo hombre, que viene al mundo.

10 En el mundo estaba, y el mundo fué hecho por él, y no le conoció el mundo.

11 A lo suyo vinó, y los suyos no le recibieron.

12 Mas á cuantos le recibieron, les dió poder de ser hechos hijos de Dios, á los que creen en su nombre.

13 Los cuales son nacidos, no de sangre, ni de voluntad de carne, ni de voluntad de varon, sino de Dios. 14 Y aquel Verbo fué hecho carne, y habitó entre nosotros; y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad.

15 Juan dió testimonio de él, y clamó diciendo. Este es aquel de quien yo decía: El que viene en pos de mí, es preferido á mí, porque erá primero que yo.

16 Y de su plenitud recibimos todos, y gracia por gracia.

17 Porque la ley fué dada por Moysés, mas la gracia, y la verdad vinó por Jesu-Christo.

18 A Dios nadie le vió jamas: el Hijo unigénito, que está en el seno del Padre, él nos le declaró.

19 Y este es el testimonio de Juan cuando los Judios enviaron de Je

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for he was before me.

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

20 Y confesó, y no negó; sino que confesó: Yo no soy el Christo.

21 Y ellos le preguntaron, ¿qué pues? ¿Eres tú Elias? Dijó: No soy. ¿Eres tú el Profeta? Y respondió: No.

22 Digeronle, ¿Pues quién eres? Paraque podamos dar respuesta á los que nos enviaron, ¿qué dices de tí mismo?

23 Y dijó: yo soy voz del que clama en el desierto, Enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijó el Profeta Isaías.

24 Y los que habían sido enviados, eran de los Phariseos.

25 Y preguntaronle, y digeronle: ¿porqué pues bautizas tú sino eres el Christo, ni Elías, ni el Profeta?

26 Y Juan les respondió diciendo: Yo bautizo con agua, mas en medio de vosotros está uno, á quien no conoceis.

27 Este es el que ha de venir en pos de mí, el cual es preferido á mí, la correa de cuyo zapato, no soy digno de desatar.

28 Estas cosas acontecieron en Bethábara de la otra parte del Jordan, donde Juan bautizaba.

29 El dia siguiente Juan vió venir á Jesus hácia él, y dijó: He aquí el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo.

30 Este es aquel, de quien yo digé En pos de mí viene un varon, el cual es preferido á mí, porque erá primero que yo.

31 Y no le conocía: Mas para que fuese manifestado en Israel, por eso vine yo bautizando con

agua.

32 Y Juan dió testimonio diciendo: ví al Espíritu descender del cielo como paloma sobre él :

33 Y yo no le conocía: mas él que me envió á bautizar con agua, me

20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No. 22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that Prophet?

26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me; for he was before me.

31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Is. rael, therefore am I come baptiz. ing with water.

32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with wa

34 Y yo ví, y dí testimonio, de que este es el Hijo de Dios.

35 Y el dia siguiente otra vez estaba Juan, y dos de sus discípulos. 36 Y mirando á Jesus que pasaba por allí, dijó: He aquí el Cordero de Dios.

37 Y los dos discípulos le oyeron hablar, y siguieron á Jesus.

38 Y volviendose Jesus, y viendo que le seguían les dijó: ¿Qué buscais? Y ellos le digeron Rabbí; (que interpretado quiere decir Maestro) ¿dónde moras?

39 Y les dijó. Venid, y ved: Vinieron, y vieron donde moraba, y quedaronse con él aquel dia, porque erá cerca de la hora decima.

40 Uno de los dos que habían oido hablar á Juan, y le habían seguido erá Andres, el hermano de Simon Pedro.

41 Este halló primero á su hermano Simon, y le dijó : Hemos hallado al Mesias, que interpretado es el Christo.

42 Y le llevó á Jesus: Y mirandole este, le dijó: Tú eres Simon hijo de Jonas, tú serás llamado Cephas, que quiere decir piedra.

43 El dia siguiente, quisó Jesus ir á Galiléa, y halló á Felipe, y le dijó; sigueme.

44 Y Felipe erá de Bethsaida, ciudad de Andres, y de Pedro. 45 Felipe halló á Nathanael, y le dijó: Hemos hallado á aquel de quien escribió Moysés en la Ley, y los Profetas: Jesus el hijo de Joseph de Nazareth.

46 Y Nathanael le dijó, ¿Puede

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 35 Again the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples; 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Je

sus.

38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46 And Nathanael said unto him.

47 Jesus vió venir á sí á Nathanael, y dijó de él: He aquí un Israelita en verdad, en el cual no hay engaño.

48 Nathanael le dijó: ¿De dónde me conoces? Jesus le respondió, y dijó: Antes que Felipe te llamára, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera, te ví.

49 Nathanael le respondió y dijó: Rabbí, tú eres el Hijo de Dios: tú eres el Rey de Israel.

50 Jesus respondió y le dijó: Porque te digé que te ví debajo de la higuera crees; mayores cosas que estas verás.

51 Y le dijó: En verdad, en verdad os digo, que veréis el cielo abierto, y los ángeles de Dios subir, y descender sobre el Hijo del hombre.

CAPITULO II.

AL tercero dia se hicieron unas bodas en Caná de Galiléa, y estaba allí la madre de Jesus. 2 Y fué tambien convidado Jesus, y sus discípulos á las bodas.

3 Y llegando á faltar el vino, la madre de Jesus le dijó: no tienen vino.

4 Y Jesus le dijó: qué tienes que ver commigo muger? No ha llegado aun mi hora.

5 Su madre dijó á los que servían: haced todo lo que él os digere.

6 Y había allí seis tinajas de piedra para agua, conforme á la purificacion de los Judios, en cada una de las cuales cabía como dos ó tres cantaros.

7 Y Jesus les dijó: Llenad estas tinajas de agua, y las llenaron hásta arriba.

of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

CHAPTER II.

AND the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee ; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
