Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.-And as concerning the dead that they rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying: I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.-You therefore do greatly err.

THE first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel the Lord thy God is one God. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength.—This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets. -There is no other commandment greater than these.... Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

soever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

BEWARE of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts: who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayer. These shall receive greater damnation.

BUT look to yourselves. For-before all these things-they will lay hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to councils and into prisons; and in the synagogues you shall be beaten, and you shall stand before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony unto them.-Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall put you to death and you shall be hated by all nations for my name's sake.-Lay it up therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before how you shall answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to resist and gainsay.—And when they shall lead you and deliver you up, be not thoughtful beforehand what you shall speak; but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye.
