tunities and advantages to my ruin. I have no help but in Thee, O Lord, be not Thou far from me; let the voice of my prayer enter into Thy presence, and send down from above Thy heavenly grace and influence, and the guard and protection of Thy holy angel to help me, and to minister to my salvation; for I walk in this world upon snares, and mine enemies are ever watchful to destroy me. But Thine eyes, O Lord, run to and fro in the earth, to shew Thyself strong in behalf of those that apply to Thee, and trust in Thy mercy. Therefore, though the weakness and infirmity of my nature is apt to shrink at the danger of my condition, yet when I consider who is on my side, and that there are more with me than those that are against me, why then should I fear? The Lord is on my side; I will not fear, though ten thousands of mine enemies set themselves against me round about; but I will ever give Thee thanks in Thy holy Church, for the gracious deliverances Thou givest unto Thy servants, through the mediation of our blessed advocate Jesus Christ, who ever liveth to make intercession for us. Amen.

V.

THE HAPPINESS OF THOSE THAT TRUST IN GOD.

TRUST thou in the Lord, O my soul, and lean not to thine own understanding. (Prov. iii. 5.) In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. (iii. 6.)

Thou, Lord, shall keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. (Isai. xxvi. 3.)

Trust in the Lord for ever; for the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. (xxvi. 4.)

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. (Isa. xl. 29.)

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. (xl. 30.)

But they, that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint. (xl. 31.)

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. (Jer. xvii. 7.)

For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh: but his leaf

shall be green, and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. (Jer. xvii. 8.)

The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and knoweth them that trust in Him. (Nahum i. 7.)

Although the fig-tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines: the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat : the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls. (Hab. iii. 17.)

Yet will I rejoice in the Lord, and joy in the God of my salvation. (iii. 18.)

I have waited for Thy salvation, O Lord. (Gen. xlix. 18.)

O God our Saviour, the hope and confidence of all those that dwell on the face of the earth, how miserable and destitute were the condition of men, if Thou, O Lord, wert not their refuge, their rock, and the firm support of their souls? Give us therefore grace, O Lord, in all our dangers, wants, and difficulties, to have recourse to Thee, to cast all our care upon Thee, and by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, to make all our requests known before Thee. For Thy power and Thy good will to men are sufficient for us in all our distresses. No evil can befal us without

Thy permission, and Thou art able to turn the worst and greatest to our greater good; and Thou hast promised Thou wilt do so for those Thy servants who put their whole trust in Thee, and repose their hearts, their hopes, their fears, their desires in Thy bosom; through Thine infinite love to us, in Thy most beloved Son, the foundation of our hope and of our trust, Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

PSALM CIII.

1. Praise the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, praise His holy name.

2. Praise the Lord, O my soul: and forget not all His benefits;

3. Who forgiveth all thy sin: and healeth all thine infirmities;

4. Who saveth thy life from destruction; and crowneth thee with mercy and loving-kindness;

5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things: making thee young and lusty as an eagle.

6. The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment, for all them that are oppressed with wrong.

7. He shewed His ways unto Moses: His works unto the children of Israel.

8. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy; long suffering, and of great goodness.

9. He will not alway be chiding; neither keepeth He His anger for ever.

10. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our wickednesses.

11. For look how high the heaven is in comparison of the earth; so great is His mercy also toward them that fear Him.

12. Look how wide also the east is from the west: so far hath He set our sins from us.

13. Yea, like as a father pitieth his own children even so is the Lord merciful unto them that fear Him.

14. For He knoweth whereof we are made: He remembereth that we are but dust.

15. The days of man are but as grass: for he flourisheth as a flower of the field.

16. For as soon as the wind goeth over it, it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no

more.

17. But the merciful goodness of the Lord endureth for ever and ever upon them that fear Him and his righteousness upon children's children;

18. Even upon such as keep His covenant, and think upon His commandments to do them.
