TO THE

KING,

SIR,

THE

HE only grounds on which I can prefume to entreat Your Majesty's favourable acceptance of this Volume of Sermons are, that a great part of them was preached in Your Majesty's own Chapel, and that my intention in publishing them was to ferve (as far as a fituation of much labour and little leifure would allow) the cause of that holy religion, to which Your Majesty has ever approv

ed Yourself a fincere and cordial friend. An intention of this fort, however feebly executed, will, I am perfuaded, be confidered by Your Majefty as the best and most becoming return I can make, for those spontaneous marks of Your Majefty's goodness to me, which have impreffed the warmest fentiments of gratitude on the mind of,

Your Majesty's

moft obliged,

and moft dutiful

Subject, and Servant,

B. CHESTER.
