THE EXAMPLE OF CHRIST. I Is then the gospel peace and love? II Whene'er the angry passions rise, III IV To do his heav'nly father's will, V Dispensing good, where'er he came, THE TRIUMPH OF CHRIST'S KINGDOM. I Of heav'n, and earth, and seas ! I And jews, with one accord, III To form a vain design ; IV And will support his throne; Hath own'd him for his son. HOPE OF HEAVEN CONFIRMED BY THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST. I Prais'd be the everlasting God, The father of our LORD ! Thy majesty ador'd ! II When from the dead thou rais'dst thy son, And call’dst him to the sky, That we should never die. III . What though thy uncontrol'd decree Command us back to dust; IV Reserv'd against that day; 'Tis uncorrupted, undefil'd, And cannot fade away. We, by thy pow'r, o GOD! are kept Til this salvation come; THE BOOK OF NATURE AND SCRIFTURE. I BEHOLD ! the lofty sky Declares its maker, GOD ; And all his starry works on high Proclaim his pow'r abroad. II The darkness and the light Still keep their course the same ; While night to day, and day to night, Divinely teach his name. III In ev'ry diff'rent land Their gen'ral voice is known; They show the wonders of his hand, And orders of his throne. IV Ye christian lands, rejoice! To you his truth is giv'n; To learn the path to heav'n. V But boundless as thy love, Such, LORD! te our return; Or, from thy precepts turn ! How shall the young, O LORD! their hearts And lives from sin secure? To keep the conscience pure. II When once it enters in the mind, It spreads such light abroad, The meanest souls instruction find, And raise their thoughts to GOD. III 'Tis like the sun, a heav'nly light, That guides us all the day; A lamp to light our way. IV Thy precepts make us truly wise, The sinner's path to flee, And walk, o GOD! with thee. Thy word is everlasting truth, ! And well support our age. |
