and the hungry soul he hath filled with good.

10 They who sat in darkness and the shadow of death: who were bound in affliction and iron:

11 Because they had rebelled against the commands of GOD: and had disregarded the counsel of the most high:

12 Whose heart he had humbled with sorrow; and who were fallen, and there was no one to help them ;

13

When these cried unto JEHOVAH in their tribulation; he delivered them from their distress :

14 He brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and brake their chains asunder.

15 Let these, therefore, praise JEHOVAH for his mercy; and for the wonderful things which he hath done for the children of men:

16 For he hath broken open the gates of brass; and hath cut asunder the bolts of iron.

17 The foolish, because of their sinful way, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted:

18 Their

18 Their soul doth nauseate all food; and they approach toward the gates of death:

19 When these cry unto JEHOVAH in their tribulation; he delivereth them from their distress :

20 He sendeth forth his word, and healeth them; and rescueth them from destruction. 21 Let these, therefore, praise JEHOVAH for his mercy; and for the wonderful things which he hath done for the children of

men.

22 Let these offer sacrifices of praise; and recount his works with joy.

23 They who sail on the sea in ships; and transact business on the great waters: 24 They see the works of JEHOVAH, and his wonderful doings, on the ocean :

25 For, at his command, a tempestuous wind ariseth, and lifteth up the waves thereof:

26 Which ascend unto the heavens, and descend again into the abyss; at the roaring of which, their soul melteth with fear:

27 They reel and stagger like a drunken man; and all their skill in sailing faileth them:

28 When these cry unto JEHOVAH in their tribulation; he delivereth them from their distress :

29 He turneth the tempest into a calm; and stilleth the waves of the sea.

30 Then they rejoice because they are at ease; and he leadeth them to the port where they wished to be landed.

31 Let these, therefore, praise JEHOVAH for his mercy; and for the wonderful things which he hath done for the children of men.

32 Let these praise JEHOVAH in the assembly of the people; let these praise him in the council of the elders.

33 He can make a well-watered country a desert and a land abounding with springs he can convert into a dry soil :

34 A fruitful land he can change into a barren waste; because of the wickedness of those who inhabit it.

35 He can turn a desert into a land abounding with springs; and a dry soil into a well-watered country:

36 And settle there the hungry; that they may build a city which they inay inhabit: 37 And sow fields and plant vineyards, which may produce increase of fruits..

38 He can bless them, so that they shall multiply exceedingly; and their cattle.

shall not be few.

39 So again; when they are reduced and brought low by oppression, calamity, and affliction:

40 He can pour shame upon princes; and make them to wander in the pathless desert:

41 While he raiseth the distressed from affliction; and maketh his tribes like a flock of sheep.

42 The righteous will see this, and rejoice; and the mouth of all iniquity shall be stopped.

43 He who is wise will observe these things; and will understand the mercies of JEHOVAH.

PSALM CVIII.

MINE heart is ready, o GOD! mine heart. is ready; I will sing and give praise. 2 Awake, my tongue; awake, my lyre and harp! I will wake the early morning. 3 I will praise thee, O JEHOVAH ! among the peoples; I will celebrate thee among the

nations:

4 For thy bounty reacheth unto the heavens; and thy truth unto the clouds.

5 Be thou exalted, O GOD! above the heavens be thy glory displayed over all the earth.

6 Hear! and rescue us with thy right-hand, that thy beloved people may be delivered.

7 GOD answereth favourably from his sanctuary, therefore, I will rejoice: I shall yet divide Sichem into lots, and measure out the valley of Succoth:

8 Gilead shall be mine, and Manasseh shall be mine; Ephraim shall be the helmet of mine head; and Judah my lawgiver :

9 Moab shall be my washing pot; at Edom I shall cast my shoe, and over Philistia I shall triumph.

10 Who will lead me to that strong city? Who will conduct me to Edom ? II Wilt thou, O GOD! still reject us, and not go forth with our armies?

12 Grant now thine aid after our distress; for vain is the help of man.

13 Through GOD we shall do great deeds; for he will tread down our enemies.
