Who slandereth not with his tongue; who doeth no injury to his neighbour, nor raiseth a disgraceful report against him :

4 In whose eyes a worthless person is despised; but who honoureth those who fear JEHOVAH :

5 Who, when he sweareth to a friend, deceiveth him not: who lendeth not his money upon usury; nor taketh a bribe against the innocent.

6 He, who doeth these things, saith Jebovah, shall never be moved. Amen.

Then shall be read a lesson, taken out of the New Testament; after which, the following psalm. Psalm LXVII.

GOD! be merciful unto us, and bless us, and show us the light of thy countenance. 2 That thy way may be known upon earth; thy salvation among all nations.

3 Let the peoples praise thee, o GOD! yea, let all the peoples pay homage

unto thee.

4 Let the nations exult and rejoice; for thou shalt judge the peoples with equity, and comfort the nations on the earth.

5 Let the peoples praise thee, o GOD! yea, let all the peoples pay homage unto thee.

6 Then shall the earth bring forth her increase; and GOD shall give us his blessing.

7 GOD, even our GOD! shall bless us; and the remotest parts of the world shall fear him. Amen.

Then shall be read three Collects, the first of which shall be one of the two following, at the choice of the minister, unless where there is one appointed to be used on some particular occasion: the second, for peace of mind: the tbird, for defence against all perils.

Minister.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY GOD! who hast most mercifully declared thy will unto thy people; grant, that they may love that which thou hast commanded, and desire that which thou hast promised; that so, among the various changes of the world, our hearts may be securely fixed upon thee, with whom alone true joys are to be found for evermore. Amen.

Or,

O GOD! who didst send thy messenger Jesus Christ to save us, by his preaching and example, from all iniquity, and make us thy children and heirs of eternal life; grant, we beseech thee, that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves agreeably to his precepts; that, when we shall appear before thy tribunal, we may be made like unto him, and be admitted to dwell with thee in thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

The second Collect, for peace of mind.

O ALMIGHTY GOD! give, we beseech thee, unto us, thy servants, that peace of mind which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be determined to obey thy commandments; and, being defended by thee from the fear of our enemies, grant that we may pass our time in the practice of religion and virtue, through thy merciful aid, promised by Jesus Christ our lord. Amen.

The third Collect, for defence against all perils.

O GOD! the protector of all those who trust in thee, and with whom there is no darkness; defend us, we beseech thee, from all the dangers and evil accidents of the approaching night, and preserve us, by thy watchful providence, in peace and safety, now and for ever. Amen.

The following prayers are next to be read, in the order in which they are placed.

For the whole christian church.

ALMIGHTY and everliving GOD! who, by thine holy apostle, hast taught us to make supplications, and to give thanks for all men; we humbly beseech thee most mercifully to receive these our prayers which we offer unto thy divine majesty, beseeching thee that all those who profess the religion of Christ, may live in unity and brotherly love with each other. We beseech thee also, to preserve and defend all kings, princes, and governors, especially thy servant, George, our king; that under him we may be peaceably governed. And grant unto his coun

cil, and unto all who are in public authority, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, in the punishment of wickedness and vice, and in the maintenance of religion and virtue. Give thy blessing, o heavenly father! to all the ministers of thy holy gospel, that they may, both by their life and preaching, fuccessfully recommend the doctrine of eternal life assured unto us by the revelation of Jesus Christ. To all thy people extend thy favour, and especially to this congregation, that, with meek heart and due reverence, they may hear and receive thy holy word, and serve thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life. We also most humbly beseech thee, of thy goodness, o merciful GOD! to comfort and succour all those, who, in this transitory world, are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. We also thank thee for all thy servants, who have departed this life in the holy reverence and love of thee; and we entreat thee to enable us to follow their good example, that we may finally be partakers, together with them, of thy heavenly kingdom.
