2 Since thou art the GOD of my strength, why wilt thou cast me off? why go I thus mourning because of the oppression of the enemy ? 3 Oh! display thy light and thy truth, that they may conduct me, and bring me back unto thy holy mountain and thy tabernacle. 4 Then will I approach the altar of JEHOVAH, the GOD of my joy and exultation; and upon the harp will I praise thee, O JEHOVAH MY GOD! 5 Why shouldst thou be dejected, o my soul! and why shouldst thou be disquieted within me ? 6 Place thy trust in GOD; for I still praise him, who is the support of my countenance, and my GOD. PSALM XLIV. we have heard with our ears, O GOD! and our fathers have related to us the works which thou didst in the days of old. 2 Thou didst with thine own hand expel nations, but thou also didst plant them : thou thou didst extirpate other nations, but thou also madest them to flourish : 3 For they got not possession of the land by their own sword: nor were they victorious by their own arm; 4 But through thy right-hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance; because thou didst favour them. 5 Thou, O GOD! art still my king; who, by thy command givest victory unto Jacob. 6 By thy help, we may drive back our enemies; and in thy name we may trample upon our adversaries. 7 For I would not trust in mine own bow; nor should mine own sword obtain me the victory: 8 Because it is thou, who must save us from our enemies; and confound those who hate us; 9 It is in thee, O GOD! we have ever gloried; and we will praise thy name for ever. 10 But thou hast cast us off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies. II Thou 11 Thou hast put us to flight before our enemies; and those who hate us make us their prey. 12 Thou givest us up, like sheep for the slaughter; and dispersest us among the nations. 13 Thou sellest thine own people, without gain; and enrichest not thyself from their barter. 14 Thou exposest us to the reproach of our neighbours; to the scorn and derision of those who are round about us: 15 Thou makest us a bye-word among the nations; and the people to shake their heads at us. 16 Our confusion is daily before us; and shame covereth our faces; 17 On account of the reproaches of the reviler and blasphemer, and because of the enemy and avenger. 18 All this hath come upon us; yet we do not forget thee, neither do we violate thy covenant. 19 Our heart doth not revolt from thee neither do our steps turn aside from thy way: 20 Although thou hast thrust us into a place place of desolation; and covered us with the shadow of death. 21 If we should forget the name of our GOD, and stretch forth our hands to a strange GOD, would not our GOD search out this? he, who knoweth the secrets of the heart? 22 Yet, for thy sake we are daily slain; and reputed as sheep for the slaughter. 23 Arise! why sleepest thou, O JEHOVAH! awake, and cast us not off for ever. 24 Why shouldst thou hide thy countenance, and forget our affliction and oppression? 25 For our soul is humbled to, the dust; our body cleaveth to the ground... 26 Arise to our aid, and deliver us for thy loving-kindness' sake. PSALM XLV. My heart teemeth with a ject; my tongue is like the writer: pleasant subpen of a ready 2 I will address my composition unto the king. 3 Thou art more beautiful than the sons of men; grace is diffused on thy lips, because GOD hath blessed thee. 4 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, thou mighty prince! thy majesty and renown are for ever. 5 Ride on prosperously in the cause of truth, meekness, and righteousness; and let thy right-hand do formidable things: nations shall fall down before thee. 6 Thine arrows, o king! are very sharp; they shall pierce the hearts of thine enemies; 7 Thy throne shall GOD establish for ever; for the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of equity: 8 Thou lovest justice, and hatest wickedness therefore, JEHOVAH, thy GOD, hath anointed thee with the oil of joy, more abundantly than any of thine equals. 9 Myrrh, aloes, and cassia, from ivory cabinets, perfume all thy garments, and delight thee with their fragrance. 10 Kings' daughters are among thine honourable women; on thy right-hand standeth the queen, arrayed with the gold of Ophir. 11 Hearken, |
