strained my lips from doing it, as thou, o JEHOVAR! knowest.

10 I have not hidden thy righteousness within mine heart; I have proclained thy truth and thy saving mercy :

11 I have not concealed thy loving kindness and thy truth from the great assembly. 12 Withdraw not, therefore, O JEHOVAH ! thy mercy from me; but let thy lovingkindness and thy truth ever preserve me.

13 For innumerable evils encompass me; mine afflictions have so overpowered me, that I am not able to look up: they are more in number than the hairs of mine head, and mine heart faileth me.

14 O JEHOVAH! be pleased to rescue me hasten to mine aid.

15 Let all those be confounded and covered with shame, who seek to take away my life let those be driven backward and brought to confusion, who wish me evil.

16 Let those who say of me "Ahah! Ahah!"* be overwhelmed with sudden shame.

17 But let all those who seek thee, be

joyful and rejoice in thee; and let those who delight in thy salvation, say; "May JEHOVAH be magnified for ever!"

18 As for me, who am afflicted and destitute, may JEHOVAH Consider my case! 19 Thou only art my helper and deliverer; delay not thy help, O JEHOVAH !

PSALM XLI.

HAPPY is the man, who showeth kindness to the distressed! JEHOVAH will deliver him in the time of trouble.

2 JEHOVAH will preserve him, and prolong his life; he will make him happy upon earth, and will not deliver him up to the will of his enemies.

3 JEHOVAH will comfort him when he lieth on the bed of sickness; he will make his bed easy during his sickness.

5 Then mine enemies spoke evil of me, and said;-"When will he die, and his name be extinct ?"

falsehood, whilst his heart was collecting lies; which, as soon as he went forth, be uttered.

7 All those who hated me, whispered against me; and devised mischief against

me:

8 "Let the lawless thing," (said they,) of which he has been guilty, stick close unto him from the place where he lieth, let him rise up no more."

:

9 Nay, mine own familiar friend in whom I trusted, and who did eat of mine own bread: even he hath egregiously betrayed me.

10 But be thou gracious unto me, o JEHOVAH! and raise me up again, that I may requite them.

11 By this I shall know that thou favourest me; if mine enemies do not triumph over me:

12 If thou support me in mine innocence; and replace me in thy presence for

13 Praised be JEHOVAH, the GOD of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen.

PSALM

PSALM XLII.

As the hart panteth after streams of water, so panteth my soul after thee,

O GOD!

2 My soul thirsteth for GOD, even for the living GOD; when shall I go, and appear before the presence of GOD?

3 My tears are my food by day and by night: while my foes are daily saying unto mc,- "Where now is thy GOD?"

4 I pour out mine heart within me, while I call to mind those days, in which I was wont to frequent thy tabernacle: in the midst of shouts of joy, and the praises of the multitude, keeping holy day.

5 But why shouldst thou be dejected, o my soul! and why shouldst thou be disquieted within me?

6 Place thy trust in GOD! for I will still praise him, who is the support of my countenance, and my GOD.

7 Although my soul be cast down within me, I remember thee, from the land of Jordan, and the steep mountains of Her

mon.

8 As here deep re-echoeth to deep, from the sound of thy water-falls; so thy waves and thy billows have passed over me.

9 Nevertheless, in the day time, I proclaim the goodness of JEHOVAH ; and in the night season, I sing praises unto the living GOD.

to say unto GOD:-"Thou art my rock why hast thou forgotten me? why go I thus mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

11 The reproach of mine enemies is a sword in my bones; while they daily say unto me," Where now is thy GOD?"

12 But why shouldst thou be dejected, o my soul! and why shouldst thou be dis quieted within me?

13 Place thy trust in GOD; for I will still praise him, who is the support of my countenance, and my GOD.

PSALM XLIII.

JUDGE me, O GOD! and plead my cause against an unmerciful people; deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
