TO CORRESPONDENTS.

We thank the pious Činna for his devout effufions; but alas, the degeneracy of the times! were we to infert fuch favours as his, we should find no readers. As he seems to be converfant with God's own elect, we advife him to be cautious of throwing pearls to fwine, and to use the Meeting-house inftead of the Anthologia, for the publication of his rhapsodies.

To the bard of Leixlip we decree the birch inftead of the laurel for his outrage upon the dignity of verfe. There is an immenfe diffe rence between the waters of Caftalia and the waters of the Spa, and fhould he find himfelf inclined to take a fecond draught, we muft bez that he will not trouble us at least, with his infpirations.

We are forry to poftpone the 18th Polyanthea, which came too late for this month's infertion: we return our thanks to its able writer, and infure him a place in our enfuing Magazine.

Nor was he lefs admirable for his companionable qualities. Few men fhone more in converfation than Mr. Grofe. In his fociety time paffed with an inaudible ftep; naturally cheerful himfelf he flashed merriment around him; nor did his fallies of pleasantry or poignant humour ever give pain, for they were not excited either by the mental or perfonal defects of his auditors. Affociating with the ornaments of literature, he abounded in literary anecdote; and having read extenfively, and obferved narrowly, he edified while he exhilarated.
