For fourteen years this triumph has been commemorated with great zeal, and by more numerous meetings than ever appeared annually on any fimilar occafion. Yesterday Mr. Fox's conftituents were anxious to fhew that they understood the import. ance and wisdom of the advice he has given to Parliament with refpect to the war--hat they felt the value of the perfonal facrifices he has made in giving that advice;-and that whatever friends, prejudice, vanity, or love of place may have deluded from him, they approve of his conduct and are determined to fupport him in it. Before four o'clock, every room in the Shakespeare tavern was crowded;--and although arrangements had been made for receiving a much greater number than the house had been able to accommodate on any former occafion, 400 perfons at least, coming too late, were difappointed. After dinner, Mr. Fox gave The Dutch mail due on Monday, arrived this morning. The Poles and South Pruffians have made themselves mafters of Fordan and Bromberg. General Szekuly, who marched to take this latter place, had his leg thot off, and received a mufquet ball in his breaft, and fell alive into the hands of the Poles, The Pruffian troops who attacked Bromberg, were all put to flight by the brave Polish general Madalinski. The Pruffian battalion of Pirch was either killed or taken prifoners to a man; Col. Von. Witt was alfo wounded. The Poles are faid to be advancing against both Thorn and Dantzic, on which account the king of Pruffia will, it is faid, withdraw 20,000 men from his army on the Rhine. Letters from Thorn of the 9th inst, state, that Colonel Szekuli is fince dead of his wounds at Bromberg, and that the Polish general Madalinfki ordered him to be interred with all military honours. The Poles feized immenfe magazines both at Fordan and Bromberg; they refpect private property, but feize all the effects belonging to the king of Pruffia. The Ruffians under prince Repnin, are said to advance into Poland in four columns. Yesterday Alderman Richard Moncrieffe was fworn into the office of Lord Mayor of this city for the enfuing year, before his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant at the Castle, when the Honourable Mr. Baron George gave his Lordship a most instructive and learned charge, confonant to the duties of his important office. After his lordship was invefted with the infignia of his office, he proceeded with his ufual attendants from the Castle to the Tholfel, when Richard Manders and Robert Powell, efqrs. were fworn in High Sheriffs of this city for the enfuing year; and Mr. H. Green Manders was fworn into the office of Sub-Sheriff. Yesterday evening his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant, and feveral perfons of distinction, were entertained at dinner by the Right Hon. the Lord Mayor, at the Mayoralty-houfe in Dawson-street. Tuesday, the body of a young man, recently drowned, was taken out of the Liffey at the end of a lane upon Temple-bar.-The young man was an apprentice to a fawyer, and his father is a carpenter in New-street. Several to remain till next affizes, &c At Tyrone affizes, John Varner, convicted of robbing the bleach-green of Mr. Willcocks, was fentenced to be executed on the 16th of October-William Moran and Edward Moran for murder, to be burned in the hand; William to be imprisoned twelve months, and Edward fix months--Ann Mollan for felony, to be publicly whipped the 26th inft.-Several others for atfaults to be fined and confined. The report which we mentioned fome time ago, of the death of lieutenant col. Stephen Freemantle, of the 39th regiment, is unhappily confirmed. He died on his patiage home on board the Vengeance He was one of the reprefentatives in parliament for the borough of Fore. Brigadier general Symes, lieutenant colonel of the 43d regiment, died in Guadaloupe the 31ft of july, in confequence of the wounds he received in the affair at Point-a-Petre. Yesterday at a full meeting of the weavers corporation, the freedom of the Guild was voted to the late lord-mayor (alderman William James) to be accompanied with an address expreffive of the high fenfe they entertain of his zeal and activity in difcharge of that office. At the fame time the following Roman catholic petitioners for their freedom, were rejected: Meffrs. John Copeland, Edward Cahill, Thomas Warren, and James Davock. There are at prefent twenty-eight working fhoe-makers, (arrefted at different times within thefe few days) in Newgate, under charges of comb.nation. Extract of a Letter from Tralee, Sept. 24. "On Friday last came on before judge Downes, and a very relpectable jury, the trial of John Day, charged with the murder of John Duane, when, after a minute i vestigation of facts, in which the attention of the Court was engaged from morning until night, it appeared that the prisoner had gone to the house of the deceafed, with a gun in his hand, to demand a pane of glafs, which he alleged was his property; and on a trivial contradiction relative to the mode of taking it out of the frame, presented the muzzle of the gun within arms length of the deceafed, and lodged the contents in his body.The only defence attempted to be set up, in extenuation of this deed of horror, perpetrated in the noon-tide hour, and in the prefence of many witnesses, was, that Duane had feized the gun when prefented at him, and that it went off in the ftruggle. The judge's charge to the jury was justice, truly tempered with mercy: they retired for about half an hour, and retured a verdict-Guilty. The unfortunate culprit was executed pur fuant to his fentence, yesterday morning, and his body delivered to the hofpital for diffection. He met his fate with fortitude and contrite refignation. By fome accident he had fome years ago loft a leg, and ufed a wooden fubftitute, which together with his cudgel, he requested to have laid by him, in his coffin. "Yesterday John Herbert was tried for the murder of his wife, near Bedford, in this county. The jury, about 5 o'clock, returned a verdicGuilty. He is to be executed to-morrow.” On Friday night, the roth wit. a fervant maid, wife to one M'Carthy, was barbarously murdered in Kinfale by fome perfon unknown. A hundred guineas however are offered by the Sovereign of Kinfale for the difcovery and profecution of the perfon or perfons concerned in this horrid deed. Monday at a meeting of the corporation of Waterford, Edmund Stephenfon, efq. was fworn in Mayor, and George Cotton and Robert Hunt, efqs. Sheriffs of that city for the enfuing year. SATURDAY-OCTOBER 4. On Saturday laft a match for 100 guineas p p. was run over the race courfe at Ennis, between Mr. M'Craith's Taffy and Mr. Hallam's Buttler, the best of one five mile heat, which was won by the former. On Thursday laft two officers of the Tipperary militia, fwimming at Youghal, were unfortunately drowned. Laft Friday night, one Michael Long, a clothier from Limerick, was found dead in a cellar in Mill-street, Ennis. The cellar had been tenanted for fome time paft by John Conway, Confectioner, in whofe company the deceased, together with a daughter of his, had been drinkng during the courfe of the evening, and Conway, taking advantage of Long's ftate of intoxi. cation, attempted to commit a violence on the daughter, whose screams aroused the father, when coming to her affiftance Conway knocked him down, and taking him in, his arms carried him into an inner apartment, and returning immediately renewed his attack on the young woman, who continued, as before, to call on her father for affiftance, which occafioned fome of the neighbours to break open the door, and rescue her from this ruffian, whom they fecured, and on fearching for Long they found him dead in the apartment to which Conway had conveyed him.-A Coroner's inqueft was held on the body, who returned a verdict that "the deceased came by his death in confequence of ill-treatment received from John Conway," who was committed to gaol. Laft Saturday night, a moft dreadful fire broke out in the cabinet work-fhop, and warehouse of Mr. J. Smith, oppofite St. Mary's Church, Limerick, which was entirely destroyed, with a quantity of finished and unfinished furniture; on the first alarm, a party of the Waterford mi litia litia, with their officers, attended to protect the property, while a number of the foldiers got on the house, and by their extraordinary and. praife-worthy exertions prevented the fire from communicating to a chandler's work-hop and ftores adjoining. Mr. Smith's premises, &c. were infured. Yesterday an adjournment of the Quarter Seffions' was held at the Tholfel before the Recorder, with whom there fat upon the cityBench, Alderman Lightburne, Alderman Worthington, and Alderman Thorpe. MONDAY, OCTOBER 6. Laft Saturday the long expected anfwer to the addrefs of the Corporation of Dublin 10 his Majefty, offering to raise a regiment for his fervice, was received by the Lord Mayor. This anfwer, we hear, in the moft gracious terms accepts the offer, and pursuant to the defire expreffed therein, that the command should be given to one of the Royal Family, appoints his Royal Highnefs the Duke of York to be Colonel. This day the Committee of the Common Council of this city will meet at the Exhibitionhoufe in William-ftreet, for the purpose of carrying into effect the raifing of the new Dublin regiment. Monday, being election day of the Guild of Merchants, Jeremiah D'Olier, Efq. was elected fenior, and Nathaniel Hone, Efq junior mafter, for the year enfuing, without oppofition. At the fame time an election for wardens took place; and on cafting up the ballots there appeared, whereupon Meffrs. Clements and Tyndall were declared duly elected. Monday fe'nnight, Peter Daly, efq. was fworn Mayor of Galway, James O'Hara, efq. Recorder, John Bradley and Kobert Squibb, efqrs. Sheriffs, and Robert O'Hara, efq. Town Clerk. Same time Edmond Fitzpatrick, efq. was fworn Deputy Mayor for the enfuing year. 10-On Wednesday fe'nnight John Herbert was executed at Gallows-green, near Tralee, pursuant to his fentence, for the murder of his wife, on the 29th of August laft, near Bedford, in the county of Kerry. OCTOBER 17. The Rofe, belonging to Workington; the Lively of do. the Minerva of Bristol, and the Bloom of Cork, arrived here on Wednesday laft from Briftol, having on board the 103d regiment of infantry. The Sutton, Lee, and the Fame, Williams, from hence, arrived fafe at Chefter, with very valuable cargoes of linen cloth. A veffel from Newry, with a cargo of linen cloth, for Chefter, got on fhore on the point of Ayre; her corgo received no damage, and was difcharged into lighters, and it was expected that the veffel would be got off without any very material injury. The linen fair of Chefter turned out an exceeding good one; all the cloth was fold, and at fmart prices. 18. At the Quarter Affembly held yesterday, at the Exhibition-room, William-ftreet, the conduct of the committee on the new regiment to be raised by the city was reprobated in the ftrongest manner, and the whole of their management fet aside. Another committee was appointed, and on the motion of Mr. Chambers, it was agreedthat the Lord Mayor do continue to refuse fealing the debentures voted for the regiment until the committee fhall prefent a report, and the fame be fanctioned by the approbation of the houfe; which was carried unanimously. The thar of the Affembly were next voted to Alderman William James, late Lord Mayor of this city, in a gold box, for his upright, active, and honourable discharge of the duties of his office. On a ballot which enfued upon this question, there appeared for it 88, against it 2. The fum of 10col for the extraordinary expences of the Mayoralty and hospitalities of the Manfion house was alfo unanimously voted to Alderman James. The thanks of the Affembly were alfo voted to the late High Sheriffs; the fame to be prefented in filver boxes. On Saturday forenoon, two children, apparently not above ten days old, were taken out of the Poddle Hole. They were supposed not to, have lain there above two days, and alfo that they were twins, thrown there by their wretched and inhuman mother-at the bare idea of which the human mind reviots As yet there is not the leaft clue that might lead to a difcovery. 22.-The quarterly examinations, which commenced in our Univerfity on Friday last, ended yesterday. The Orange, belonging to New York, Patrick Phelan mafter, arrived here yesterday from Oporto. The Hon. Rich. St. Leger, brother to Lord Doneraile, is appointed one of the land waiters on the Custom Houfe quay, in the room of Edward Gleadowe, efq. who has retired on a penfion. Yesterday there was an uncommon great quantity of herrings felling about town; the fish were rather small, but exceedingly fresh. Such a fupply a fupply as this, and which has been frequent for this month paft, fhould tend very much to lower the price of butchers meat in the different markets of this city. Between the hours of one and two o'clock on Monday morning laft a gentleman was stopped in Kevin'-ftreet, near the Bishop's Palace, by three fellows, who robbed him of a guinea and a half and his hat. Yesterday a meeting of the grand committée of the Corporation of this city was held at the Exhibition-house in William-street, for the purpose of organizing the Koyal Dublin Regiment, and having, after fome debate on the modus to be observed, proceeded upon business, elected, Lightburne, efq late Captain of the 38th regiment, to be Lieutenant Colonel-raifing 100 men. Cope, efq. late Captain of the 4th regiment, to be Major-raifing 50 men. 22.-The Bordeaux packet, Giffard, for Jamaica, laden with linen cloth, was captured between the 13th and 28th ult. by a fquadron of French frigates cruifing off Cape Clear, on the weft of Ireland. Several other veffels were taken in nearly the fame latitude, and are fupposed to be carried into Breft. On board the above veffel were paffengers Major James (who was proceeding to the West-Indies to join his regiment, the 62d now in that quarter) and his lady. The Bordeaux packet, we are informed, was deeply infured. OCTOBER 23. The Parliament of this kingdom is further prorogued from the 2d of October to the 25th of November next. Provinces; thofe will, it is thought, in all cafes where practicable, be left for more deliberate operations, while the country intervening will be entered, till it be afcertained whether or not the Dutch are earnestly disposed to hazard every thing in defence of their country. Wednesday the first divifion of the 101ft regiment marched into Cork. Saturday fe'nnight arrived at Cove his Majesty's frigate Diana, Captain Faulkiner, from a cruife. OCTOBER 24. The Cork Courier of the 22d inft. fays, that the Penelope, captain Thomas, is just arrived from Gibraltar, which place he left on the 30th of September. At the time of his coming away, two frigates paffed close by him, having the National flag with the English colours over them; he faw alfo eight or ten much larger vessels with the fame colours, at a distance in the Bay, going in. About 8000 troops are already affembled in the vicinity of Southampton-of this army, lord Moira is commander in chief. This day a party of col. Cradock's regiment, confifting of between 200 and 300, failed for the lfle of Man. A letter from Cambleton fays, that the herring fishery in the North of Scotland this feafon, has hitherto proved unfuccefsful. By the laft advices received there it appears that many veffels which have failed nine weeks before had not been able to catch one barrel of her rings. On Friday night a fervant in the employment of lord Clonmel was robbed in Dominick-street of his watch and a few fhillings at the end of Stable-lane.
