The Recorder's court was opened on Saturday laft, pursuant to adjournment, and, without proceeding to bufinefs, was further adjourned to Thursday the 14th inftant.

On Saturday laft Frederick Fleming, late marshal and bailiff of the Liberty of St. Sepulchre, was expofed one hour in the pillory, pursuant to his fentence at the last commiffion, for committing wilful and corrupt perjury, in an examination fworn before Mr. Alderman Fleming, against Patrick Griffin. He is to be pillored once more for the fame offence, and to be imprisoned fix months.

The fittings at Nifi Prius will close this day in the court of Exchequer, previous to the long vacation.

EAST-INDIA FLEET.

By the Indiamen arrived at Galway we have received the following advices:

The Lord Walfingham, Henry Dundas, Hawke and Warley, were at China in January laft. Thefe hips are expected to arrive very shortly.

Mr. John Palba, third Mate of the Warren Haftings, unfortunately lost his life in India, in a dispute.

The Earl of Abergavenny arrived at Whampoa the 20th of December.

The Earl Fitzwilliam was at Bombay the 13th of January.

The Marquis of Land down was at Calcutta
the 12th of February last.
The Ofterley was at Canton the 24th of
December, the Ceres the 20th, and the Royal
Charlotte and Triton the 25th.

The Glatton was above the Bocca Tigris in
December laft.

The Lord Thurlow arrived at Macao the 16th of December laft.

There is on board the Hillsborough, now in Galway bay, a French gentleman, prifoner of war, named Monfieur J. M. Louis.

The Bergin, captain Hanwick, from Bengal, is fafe arrived at Dover.

The Thetis, captain Bullock, and Sir Ed ward Hughes, captain Urmston, were spoke with the 3d of June laft, in lat. 43. 45. N. and long. 3. 44. W. all well.

The De Snelefe Poft Dutch floop, captain Spockler, from Lisbon, one of the convoy, was taken by the following French fquadron, viz. La Proferpine, 50 guns; L'Apacieus and La Gentille, 44 each; and another frigate; La Muzette, Le Tigre, Le Dequetois, and another floop, on the 26th of July, and was retaken on the 27th by the Refolution privateer of Weymouth, and carried into that place. The French prifoners fay they have other squadrons at fea, and that fix fail of the line were to have failed a few days after they left France, which they fuppofe to be at sea now.

Moft of the Faft India ships carry 32 guns, to the use of which men were regularly trained during the voyage, so that a convoy for them was not fo neceffary as might have been imagined. Captain Montgomery, of the Bombay Castle, acted as commodore.

We understand that a corvette was to be fent from the Ifle of France to Madras, the 25th of March last, with the English who were taken prisoners in the Pigot.

The French have named the late Princefs Royal Indiaman, which they took from us laft September in the Straits of Sunda, the Dugaytroin, and mounted her with 34 guns.

The embarkation of the regiments ordered from this establishment on foreign fervice has been countermanded by government.

Thursday morning the body of Mr. Derrick, who recently kept the timber yard in Off-lane, was found drowned at the new dock at the Custom house. Several transports with troops have failed from Portsmouth for this kingdom, under convoy of the Triton frigate.

The 101ft regiment is ordered from Scotland to do duty in this kingdom.

Five transports failed from hence on Thursday for the Isle of Man, to bring the 95th regiment from thence to this city.

Friday colonel Fitch's regiment, now completc, received their arms from the armoury in the Lower Castle-yard.

On Friday night inspector Shee proceeded to the county of Wicklow, and apprehended John Gravil and John Gavan, for robbing the Wicklow mail on Wednesday morning laft, and on Saturday night lodged them in Newgate. The poftboy fully identified them both as two of the party, and recognized Gavan as the perfon who cut the cord of the bag.

A few days ago a fine boy, eight years old, was drowned in an attempt to fwim near the point of the North-wall. He was picked up by a ship's boat, then failing down the harbour, but every means to recover him proved ineffectual.

Parents are extremely remifs in fuffering helpless children of that age to roam at large and venture into the river to fwim, when fo many dangers of drowning furround them, and when they are incapable of affifting themselves in the flightest accident that may endanger their lives.

Horfe ftealing promises to become prevalent in the environs of this city. Two or three horfes have been carried off in the neighbourhood of Ranelaghi, and attempts have been made upon others. In England perfons put fteel collars with their names upon them on their horfes, when in the fields, which secure them from being stolen, it being impregnable to a file, at leaft for fome hours. A fimilar precaution here would certainly have as good an effect, and is not fo dangerous a one as that now in ufe, of locking the four feet together with fetters.

LEIXLIP SPA.

A gentleman confined to his room undertook, on Sunday laft, for his amufement, to make an eftimate of the number of perfons who on that day paffed through Leixlip, on their way to the new fpa; for which purpofe he placed himfelf in his window at 6 o'clock in the morning, with pen, ink and paper, and between that hour and five in the afternoon he reckoned,

In the addrefs, the exertions of fir Charles Talbot on the occafion, are mentioned with warm approbation.

A merchant in this town received by this day's mail a letter from St. Vincent's, dated 28th June, ftating that a gentleman had arrived there who had been on board the English admiral's hip at Guadaloupe on the 20th, and that the French fieet and armament were com. pletely furrounded, and would probably furrender the next day.

The Hope, Samuel Chirmfide mafter, an established trader, from hence for London, with a valuable cargo of linen cloth, arrived fafe in the Downs the 5th inftant, under convoy of the Aftrea frigate.

The Harlequin, Alexander M'Connell mafter, from London for this port, failed from the Downs the 3d inftant, under convoy for Portfmouth.

The Liverpool packet, John Hughes mafter, fails for Liverpool firft fair wind.

The Lord Donegall, captain James M'Roberts, loaded with linen cloth for London, arrived fafe at the Downs the 5th infant, under convoy of the Aftrea frigate, after a paffage of five days.

The New Loyalty, Thomas Bell mafter, loaded with linen cloth for Liverpool, arrived fafe there on Monday morning laft, after a paffage of 22 hours.

The fhip Sufanyah, captain Baird, from this port for Philadelphia, arrived fafe at that port the 2d ult. after a paffage of eight weeks.

The hip Irith Volunteer, David Munro, mafter, from Charlestown and Cadiz, is arrived

in this harbour.

The North Cork, it is faid, will replace the Mayo.

A melancholy and lamented accident happened at Cowes, in the Ifle of Wight, about eight o'clock on Friday morning laft. A party from one of the transports, under convoy of the Nonfuch man of war and fome gunboats, lying at anchor there, bound to Jersey, obtained permiffion to land, that they might take the benefit of fea-bathing from the shore.

Returning to their fhip, the wind blowing ftrong from the north, and tide at ebb, the fmall boat in which they were not being more than fifteen feet long, overfet, and unhappily fixteen foldiers of the 32d regiment, and two failors, making a proportion of twenty-eight in number, who firft left the veffel, were drowned. The others, with the greatest difficulty, were picked up by the affiftance given from the boats in the harbour.

We acknowledge the receipt of I. A. B's letter from Belfast, but are totally at a lofs in

If he intends fincerity, with an equal portion of it on our part we thank him for the enamoured partiality which he fo lovingly expreffes, but advife him to transfer his fondness to fome gentle fairone in his own neighbourhood, whofe vanity may not be indifferent to the fulfomeness of coarje panegyric: If, cynic like, he means to indulge a Ay laugh in his fleeve, we are never lefs affected than with the grin of petulance, and imitate, on fuch occafions, the example of the lion in the fable, who difdained to wreak his vengeance because an ass was to be the object of his fury.
