discourses, which I am persuaded will raise filch an opinion of Mr. Abernethy in the difcerning and judicious, as will convince them, that this essay, intended as a piece of just reSpect to his memory, is far from flattering it; a thing to which indeed there could be notemptation, when it is real perplexity how to give the reader a just notion of his true worth which the author can honestly declare is the case; and is fully perfuaded that such as were intimately acquainted witb him, have a far higher Idea of his character, than this representation of it can possibly raise in others.
