formation and conviction fhall be paid by any person whatsoever.

II. And it is hereby further enacted, That if any action or fuit fhall be commenced or brought against any Justice of the Peace, Conftable, or other officer or perfon whatsoever, for doing, or caufing to be done, any thing in pursuance of this Act, concerning the faid offences, the defendant in that action may plead the general iffue, and give the special matter in evidence; and if, upon fuch action, verdict be given for the defendant, or the plaintiff become nonfuit, or difcontinue his action, then the defendant fhall have treble cofts.

12. Provided always, and it is hereby enacted, That no perfon fhall be profecuted or troubled for any offence against this Statute, herein before or herein after mentioned, unless the fame be proved or prosecuted within eight days next after the offence committed.

13. And it is further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That this Act fhall be publicly read four feveral times in the year, in all parish churches and public chapels, by the Parfon, Vicar, or Curate of the refpective parishes or chapels, immediately after Morning or Evening Prayer, on four feveral Sundays, that is to fay, the Sunday next after the twenty-fifth day of March, twenty-fourth day of June, twenty-ninth day of September, and twentyfifth day of December, in every year; or in cafe divine fervice fhall not be performed in any fuch church or chapel on any of the Sundays before mentioned, then upon the first Sunday after any of the faid quarterly days on which divine fervice fhall happen to be performed in any fuch church or chapel, under the pain of forfeiting the fum of five pounds for every fuch omiffion or neglect; to be levied by diftrefs and fale of the offender's goods and chattels, by virtue of a warrant under the hand and feal of any one Juftice, Mayor, Bailiff, or other chief magiftrate, as aforefaid.

14. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That the Clerk of the Juftice, Mayor, Bailiff, or other chief officer, before whom proceedings upon this Act shall be had, fhall and may receive and take for the information, fummons, and conviction of every offender against this Act, the fum of one fhilling, and no more.

15. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That from and after the faid first day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-fix, an A&t made in the

twenty-first year of the reign of King James the First, intituled, An Act to prevent and reform profane Curfing and Swearing; and also an Act made in the fixth and seventh years of the reign of King William the Third, intituled, An Act for the more effectual fuppreffing profane Curfing and Swearing, thall be and are hereby repealed.

Abstract of the Acts for Burying in Woollen, fo far as they concern the Minifter.

IT

T is enacted, That all perfons in holy Orders, Deans, Parfons, Deacons, Vicars, Curates, and their or any of their fubftitutes, do, within their respective parishes, precincts, and places, take an exact account, and keep a regifter of all and every perfon or perfons buried in his or their respective parishes or precincts, or in fuch common burial places as their respective parishioners are ufually buried. And that fome one or more of the relations of the party deceased, or other credible perfon, fhall, within eight days next after fuch interment, bring an affidavit in writing, under the hands and feals of two or more credible witneffes, and under the hand of the magiftrate or officer before whom the fame was fworn, (for which nothing fhall be paid,) to the Minifter or Parfon, that the faid perfon was not put in, wrapt, or wound up, or buried, in any shirt, fhift, fheet, or shroud, made or mingled with flax, hemp, filk, hair, gold, or filver, or other than what is made of theep's wool only; or in any coffin lined or faced with any cloth, ftuff, or any other thing whatsoever, made or mingled with flax, hemp, filk, hair, gold, or filver, or any other material but sheep's wool only.

5. And in cafe no fuch affidavit shall be brought to the Parfon or Minifter where the faid party was buried, as aforefaid, within the faid eight days, that fuch Parfon or Minifter fhall forthwith give, or caufe notice thereof to be given, in writing under his hand, to the Church-wardens or Overfeers of the poor of fuch parish.

6. And in cafe any Parfon or Minifter shall neglect to give notice to the Church-wardens or Overfeers of the Poor, as aforefaid, or not give unto them a note or certificate under his hand, teftifying that fuch an affidavit and certificate was not brought to him within the time limited by this Act, concerning the parties being interred according to the directions hereof; he fo neglecting or offending fhall forfeit for every fuch offence the fum of five pounds of lawful money of England; to be recovered by fuch perfon as shall fue for the fame, by action of debt, bill,

plaint, or information, wherein no effoin, wager of law, or protection, fhall be allowed; and wherein alfo the profecutor fhall recover his full cofts, fo as the fuit be commenced within fix months after the offence fhall be committed.

7. And it is further enacted, That the Parfon or Minifter of every parifh fhall keep a register in a book, to be provided at the charge of the parith, and make a true entry of all burials within his parish, and of all affidavits brought to him, as aforefaid, within the time limited, as aforefaid: and where no fuch affidavit fhall be brought to him within fuch time, that he enter a memorial thereof in the faid regiftry against the name of the party interred, and of the time when he notified the fame to the Churchwardens or Overfeers of the Poor.

Additional Act for Burying in Woollen.

It T is enacted, That if no Juftice of the Peace fhall refide or be to be found in any parish where any party fhall be interred, the Parfons, Vicars, and Curates, in every parish or chapel of eafe within the county where any party fhall be interred, (except only the Parfon, Vicar, and Curate, of the parish or chapel of eafe where the party is interred, concerning whofe interment in woollen affidavit is to be made,) are authorized and required to adminifter the oaths or affidavits to be made of any perfon's being interred in woollen, according to the directions of the aforefaid Act; and to atteft the fame under their hands gratis.

General Abstract of the Acts of Parliament now in force relating to the Payment of the Wages of Petty Officers and Seamen, Non-commiffioned Officers of Marines, and Marines, ferving in the Royal Navy of Great Britain.

EVER

VERY volunteer who fhall enter his name with any Officer, appointed for entering volunteers, fhall be entitled to wages from the date of his entry, provided he fhall appear on board his fhip within fourteen days thereafter if his fhip fhall be distant more than one hundred miles, he fhall be allowed twenty days to join it, and thirty days if the distance exceeds two hundred miles ; he fhall likewife be entitled to the ufual conduct money, and to two months advance wages at the first fitting out of the fhip, which fhall be paid before it proceeds to fea; and all Petty Officers, Seamen, and Marines, fhall be entitled to the like advance of two months wages before the ship of which they are on board fhall fail, in cafe they fhall not have received the fame before.

2. Monies granted or to be granted by Parliament for the fervice of the Navy, fhall, in the first place, be applied for the regular payment of all tickets, and for the regular difcharge of all wages due, or to grow due, in manner following; (that is to fay,) as often as any fhip, which shall have been in fea pay twelve calendar months, or more, fhall be or arrive in any port of Great Britain, or on the coaft thereof, the Captain or Commander fhall immediately cause five complete pay books to be made out for all the time fuch fhip fhall have been in pay, except the last fix months; and hall forthwith tranfmit, by the firft fafe opportunity, fuch books, together with three alphabets and a flop book, to the Commiffioners of the Navy, at their Board; and as foon as fuch fhip fhall be or arrive in any port of Great Britain, where there is a Commiffioner of the Navy, the faid Commiffioner of the Navy fhall immediately folicit the neceffary fums of money, and cause payment to be made of the wages due, deducting the advance money, and all defalcations, and leaving always the wages due for the last fix months, and for the time employed in preparing the books, unpaid, and no more; and all the wages due upon any fhip fhall be paid as foon as may be, or
