Committee of Council on Education, Council Office, Downing-street, 15 June 1852. 1 SIR, WITH reference to the Circular of the Poor Law Board, dated 6 May 1850, fixing the scale of reimbursement from the Parliamentary Grant to Boards of Guardians for the salaries of teachers examined by Her Majesty's Inspectors in workhouse schools, I am directed by the Lord President of the Council to request that you will have the goodness to bring the following facts under the notice of the President of the Poor Law Board, as the ground on which the Lords of the Education Committee of the Privy Council would suggest certain modifications (hereafter stated) in the present plan. 1. The following table exhibits in parallel columns the minimum salaries required by the Committee of Council for the nine grades of teachers certificated by their Lordships in common elementary day schools, and the maximum salaries attainable by the nine grades of teachers certificated in workhouse schools. |
